A Lidl could be be built within the Park Road conservation area of Norbiton, if a planning application is given the go-ahead later this month.

The application submitted to Kingston Borough Council last week proposes to demolish three buildings on Manorgate Road and erect a three-storey discount supermarket in their place.

The existing buildings, dating back to the 1950s, are within the Park Road Conservation Area, which is noted for its fine Victorian houses and shops from the mid 19th century.

The supermarket would be designed using "predominantly brick” to reflect the design of homes in the conservation area, according to the planning application.

The Lidl would also feature ground level and external car parking.

Glimpses of the building would be caught from Coombe Road and Manorgate Road due to the Lidl’s “bulk, mass and scale”.

Objections and letters of support will be accepted until Friday, December 28.
