A lorry crane has struck a bridge between Esher and New Malden today (October 30), causing disruption to railway services in the area.

South Western Rail confirmed train services have returned to normal disruption was caused by a vehicle trapped under a bridge between Weston Green and Scilly Isles.

A tweet published by South Western Rail at 1:04pm today reads: “Following a vehicle striking a bridge between Esher and New Malden, all lines have now reopened.

“Train services are returning to normal but some services may still be delayed by up to 20 min. Disruption is expected until 14:00 30/10.”

Surrey Police said: "We were called at 11:11am to a report that a lorry carrying machinery had struck a bridge in Lower Green Rd, Thames Ditton.

"Officers attended to assist with traffic management whilst the bridge was assessed and the lorry removed. The road was cleared just before 3pm."
