Could a new discount chain store – Five Pound World – be on its way to Sutton soon?

Empty Poundworld stores which closed down earlier this year amid a nightmarish 2018 for the high street are being taken over, according to reports.

The one which is currently vacant in Sutton High Street saw 10 people made redundant as the chain collapsed into administration.

But it could return as a £5 discount high street store and be among the 150 others opening up within the next 18 months, reports trade publication The Grocer.

It’s said new shoppers could buy cheaper products in multi-buy deals at the same price - for instance, four Domestos bleach sprays for a fiver.

The first Five Pound World store was opened up in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, last week, while two more are expected later this month.

One in Derby and the other in Walthamstow, northeast London.

Poundworld went bust in June, seeing thousands of jobs go and hundreds of stores close.

Spaces that have been left by the chain will be rented, according to some reports.

The year of 2018 has been a huge struggle for high street stores, with House of Fraser, Maplin, Prezzo and Toys 'R' Us among those hit.
