Girls aged 11 to 18 can attend a free hackathon in Kingston next month to learn about how coding skills could benefit their careers.

The event, run by the organisation iamtheCODE, will be held on October 27 and 28 at Unilever House on St James's Road from 9.30am until 5pm.

Participants will get to build their own app and learn how to code using Kano computer kits.

They will also be asked to come up with ideas on how technology could address challenges such as inequality, climate peace and justice.

The best ideas will be developed and supported through local programmes and mentoring with partners in the UK and Africa.

Prizes on the day itself include computer kits, t-shirts and other goodies.

Mariéme Jamme, founder of iamtheCODE said: “At the end of the two days, amazing young girls will build innovative solutions related to the sustainability development goals, get inspired, be included and have lots of fun.”
