Police have declared an ‘unexploded bomb’ found in Esher as safe after a specialist disposal crew was called to the incident earlier today.

Surrey Police received reports on September 24 of a suspicious object resembling an unexploded bomb at the junction between Milbourne Lane and Copsem Lane at 12.30pm.

In a tweet, Elmbridge police wrote: “Earlier today police made aware of sus object which would appear to be an unexploded bomb at junction of Milbourne Lane and Copsem Lane.

“Safety cordon is in place and Explosive Ordnance Disposal en route. Please be aware of traffic delays.”

Reports of traffic delays emerged on social media this afternoon.

One Twitter user wrote: "Any idea what’s happening on Copsem Lane, Esher?

"There’s no diversion and it’s chaos."

Elmbridge Police confirmed all roads have now reopened after the unexploded device was examined and declared safe.
