A New Addington family is battling a maggot infestation on their doorstep.
The infestation, which began four years ago, is a result of council workers failing to clean a communal bin properly, mother of two Vicky Read claims.
Hordes of maggots have gathered in cracks in the floor and walls outside her council property on Dunsfold Way and, despite Ms Read claiming to have notified the council of their presence on multiple occasions, they have not been removed.
Ms Read, who has a 9-year-old daughter and a 14-year-old son, said: “We are infested with maggots on our doorstep.
“This has been going on for almost four years now.
“Nothing gets cleared properly and never in two years have I witnessed a good jet wash clean. It’s a losing battle."
The infestation is particularly distressing for her son, who has autism.
Ms Read said: “He finds it so stressful leaving the house everyday for school.
“To make him comfortable we have to clean the whole area outside every morning.
“We are constantly washing it down, but when I come home the maggots have built up again.
“It just feels dirty.”
Ms Read fears the maggots could take hold inside her property if action isn’t taken soon.
A spokesman for Croydon Council said: “We have no record of being contacted by Ms Read, but we are aware of the issue.
"It is not thought to be related to the bins and we will work to ensure this area is cleaned as soon as possible.
“We will also keep Ms Read updated.”
