An Epsom mum will soon be taking on an exhausting challenge to raise money for the fight against alzheimer’s.
Hazel Taylor will be joining a group of volunteers trekking the great wall of China from September, 8 to 16, to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.
The 50-year-old, who is from Horton hill, will be tackling the great wall in honour of her mum Dawn White, who died of vascular dementia six years ago and had always wanted to see the world heritage site.
She said: “It’s one of the things my mum wanted to see because at the time there were seven wonders of the world and it’s something she’d always wanted to see."
Mrs Taylor had originally planned on walking the great wall last year, but had to put it off until she had her cataracts removed.
The mum-of-four added: “Training for such an event while raising four children, keeping an eye on my dad, who I'm proud to say is 87, and working full time has been a challenge in itself.
“Probably more so than trekking the wall will be?”
Mrs Taylor has worked in elderly care for over 30 years and said she wanted to raise awareness about dementia.
She continued: “People are living longer. Dementia is on the increase and we are in need of people who would like to make a difference to people's lives by supporting them.”
