A Tadworth mum-of-two walking her dog in Tattenham Way Recreation Ground was shocked to see the park strewn with rubbish.

Valeria Aroca, from Tadworth, said she saw “hundreds” of empty cans, bottles and cream chargers canisters left on the grass on Friday (August 24).

Ms Aroca, a secretary with two children aged 12 and 7, posted photos on social media of the rubbish left behind in Tattenham Way Recreation Ground, which is adjacent to the Beacon Secondary School.

The 42-year-old said: “My concern is that it’s where children play. I assume it’s teenagers because they are the ones who are doing that.

“I am angry at parents who are not checking what their children are doing. I understand teenagers want to get together but they should clean up after themselves.

“These canisters are the latest legal high. There were hundreds on the floor.”

Cream chargers are meant for chefs to whip cream when making desserts but they are increasingly used recreationally by breathing in the nitrous oxide gas in the canisters using balloons.

When inhaled, nitrous oxide, nicknamed laughing gas, can make people feel happy and euphoric, but some people also experience hallucinations.

Laughing gas presents a risk of death as it can lead to a lack of oxygen in the blood, particularly when consumed in an enclosed space or mixed in with alcohol.

Last week, ITV reported a young woman from Bristol had been left unable to walk after inhaling laughing gas damaged the top of her spinal cord and nervous system.
