St Matthew's Church in Surbiton has announced a string of free heritage open days for September.
These open days provide a chance to visit a fine example of a listed mid-Victorian church and visitors will be able to learn about its benefactor, William Matthew Coulthurst.
Built to the design of architect C L Luck, attention is being paid this year to the First World War memorial to parishioners lost in that war.
There is a rich variety of glass to be seen and the five panel sanctuary window installed in the 1950s to replace windows destroyed in 1944 by a V1 flying bomb.
There is a Binns organ, a singular bell cast which was relocated from Kenilworth for the church's consecration, and a rare set of eight chimes, though the bell and chimes are currently not accessible to visitors as there is deterioration to the tower and spire.
Smarties, the church's very active embroidery group, will be showing the banners it has made for the church.
The open days will be held on September 13-14 from 10am to 3pm, as well as on Saturday, September 15 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, September 16 from 2pm to 5pm.
Admission is free and all are welcome. Refreshments and short guided tours will also be available.
