An Epsom based charity was recently awarded funds to provide support for people with learning disabilities.

The Sunnybank Trust works with adults with learning disabilities and ensures they have a voice in what matters to them.

The grant was given to the charity by the Community Foundation and will support an advocacy project for adults with learning disabilities in Epsom, over a year.

The project, which starts later this year, is known as the Voices, caters for over 45 members each week.

It will be delivered by a team of volunteer citizen advocates and will continue providing long-term, one-to-one advocacy support for people with learning disabilities

There will also be the development of self-advocacy service provision in the future. Kate Peters, Director of Grants and Impact at the Community Foundation for Surrey said: “The Foundation has been delighted to award a number of grants to support Sunnybank over recent years.

“This award from our donors including the Gatwick Foundation Fund supports a key aspect of their work and we wish them every success with the project.”

Advocacy Manger, John Carroll said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from the Community Foundation’s donors as this means we can continue to provide the much-needed service to people who would otherwise be really isolated.

“This funding will support the work of our wonderful volunteer Citizen Advocates to ensure that people with learning disabilities have their voices heard."
