A witness appeal has been issued after a car overturned in a collision on a main road in Epsom on Thursday evening.

A tweet from Surrey Police confirmed the incident had occurred on Longmead Road at the junction with Gibraltar Crescent, and had resulted in a "serious injury." The road was closed while the scene was cleared.

At the time, images appeared on Twitter of a Volkswagen that had overturned, apparently as a result of a collision.

Surrey Police have confirmed that the car overturned after the driver of another car - a Range Rover - crashed into it. The woman in the overturned car had to be cut free by fire crews.

The driver of the Range Rover, a man in his 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A spokesman from South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed: "Two ambulance crews attended the scene of a road traffic collision on Longmead Road, Epsom, which was reported to us shortly after 4.30pm.

"Two patients were treated before being taken to St George's Hospital. Injuries reported included head and hip injuries."

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call 101 quoting reference PR/P18132869.
