Eastenders star Danny Dyer has narrated a "Penguin Love Island" episode for Chessington World of Adventures.

The programme, the resort's take on ITV2's popular show of a similar (and slightly shorter) name, follows the relationship between Humboldt penguins.

Mr Dyer's involvement mirrors his daughter, Dani Dyer, appearing as a contestant in the current series of Love Island.

He said: “I do love a penguin, me. So when me and the kids was feeding them at Chessington I couldn’t help but get involved in all the capers. Beautiful!”

Keepers were inspired to make the four-part series when they notice the penguins, which are said to mate for life, beginning new relationships at the start of the new mating season.

The series follows seven birds at the resort's Penguin Bay: Raymi, Chira, Juanito, Chakana, Atol, Cooper and Earl.

Assistant zoo manager Lisa Britton said: “I don’t know anyone that isn’t tuning in to this year’s Love Island already; from the moment it airs everyone is hooked by the storylines of the villa and can’t get enough of the drama.

"That’s exactly how we as a zoo team felt when watching our penguins’ behaviour lately and their ‘recoupling’. We are excited to give viewers a window into our very own villa!”

The series can be watched on Chessington World of Adventures social media accounts, with the first episode having been aired on June 5.
