Children battled extreme weather conditions to arrive to school in costumes representing their favourite literary characters for World Book Day.

Parents, pupils and staff made it to James Dixon Primary School in Anerley on Thursday (March 1) as the Beast from the East left its snowy mark.

Headteacher Michelle Aldred said: "I am so proud of all my staff and the wonderful pupils at James Dixon Primary School.

"We are all dedicated to providing extensive learning opportunities for our school community."

The pupils posed for photographs in the playground before meeting a local author and taking part in a fashion parade in a special assembly.
