I didn't know where to start, and that is the exact kind of food confusion I want on a lazy Sunday morning.

I was at Ishtah Restaurant, in Hendon Lane, and I was about to tuck into their Mr Green. It was toasted sourdough bread smothered in smashed avocado topped with two poached eggs, scattered on and around it was a large flat mushroom, grilled tomato, asparagus, halloumi cheese and humus.

It was vegetarian yes, but it did such a good job it definitely rivals a good old English breakfast.

My other half went for the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and although he assured me it was delicious, I didn’t try it. Why would I when I had such a wonderful offering in front of me already.

Everything was perfect and for this I was relieved, there were a few other things on the breakfast menu that caught my eye so the tiniest fault would have left me with regret over my decision.

I definitely chose wisely, but may have to return one Sunday soon for the American style pancakes, or the Shakshuka (as Mediterranean classic dish of a tomato sauce with vegetables and eggs poached inside), or Just the Way Mama made it – a traditional Turkish breakfast in which dish after dish is brought to your table. That one is securely fixed in the back of my greedy mind.

To accompany our breakfast we both had a not-so-cheeky mocktail. I went for the Fruity Caipiroshka of blended kiwi, strawberry, lime and cranberry juice. My partner had the Ishtah breeze with carrot juice, cranberry juice and apple juice. There were wonderfully decorated, like a holiday cocktail, and the tastes beautifully mixed.

A simple breakfast outing quickly became decadently delicious at Ishtah.
