Learn English at Home. (LEAH) is a small Kingston based charity offering English language support to ethnic minorities. On Monday 27 February at the Kingston Quaker Centre,  the LEAH literacy class students and volunteers were delighted to meet MP for Kingston and Surbiton James Berry.

James was full of praise. "We're very lucky to have LEAH in Kingston - a real model for other areas. Thank you to the many volunteer teachers who help support those wishing to learn English and I want to thank them for all they do to help social integration in our diverse Borough.”

This literacy class is just one of the ways LEAH helps Kingston residents improve their practical English language skills and become more involved in their local community.

It is currently recruiting volunteers to train as English tutors to teach one to one in the home to people who cannot access college because of childcare responsibilities, disability or very low levels of English.

You'll be making a huge difference to the life of someone who is isolated and marginalised, building confidence to join community classes and opening up opportunities such as study at college and eventually employment.
