Kingston Council is to investigate whether to introduce a zebra crossing outside a Coombe Hill care home and hospital after a petition gathered nearly 400 signatures.
The petition, which is calling for a crossing to be put in place outside the privately owned New Victoria Hospital in Coombe Lane West, was submitted to councillors with 374 supporters.
Councillors will now debate introducing a crossing next to a bus stop at Thursday’s Maldens and Coombe Neighbourhood Committee.
Calls for a crossing are backed by Coombe Hill School, which says many of its pupils use the bus service.
Council documents state: “This section of road has seen a number of recent new developments, with a Care Home built and the further expansion of the New Victoria Hospital.
“Both of these will have an impact on the level of local traffic, and some of the new trips generated will make use of the public transport network.”
According to the council, more than 17,000 two-way trips are made in Coombe Lane West – meaning that any changes would have to be made in conjunction with Transport for London.
The investigations will take place later this month.
