Three endangered Asiatic lions have been born at Chessington World of Adventures.
The female cubs, which popped out on September 19 but whose birth has only been announced today, were born to mum Rani and new dad Kamal.
Kamal came to Chessington earlier this year from the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, Canada, as part of the resort’s endangered species programme.
The two-month-old cubs, which are yet to be named, have only just started to venture into their outdoor enclosure, with keepers noticing one of the trio already starting to be a “cheeky troublemaker” often seen pulling its parents’ tails.
The new family is part of an endangered breed that has taken nearly 100 years to climb back from the brink of extinction.
Only about 500 Asiatic lions live in the wild.
Visitors to the park can take part in the resort’s ‘Wake Up With the Lions’ hotel package as part of the Father Christmas sleepovers on dates between December 18 and 23.
