A woman in her 90s was pushed off her bike and robbed during a “sickening and cowardly attack”.

The thief, who is also believed to have been on a bike, got away with just £6, some credit cards and keys when he attacked the elderly cyclist at about 7.15pm in West Grove, Walton on Saturday.

The woman was taken to St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey where she was treated for “serious injuries”, said police.

Detective Constable Katie Hanlon said: “This was a sickening and cowardly attack on an elderly and vulnerable woman who was simply going about her business when she was targeted.

“This woman has sustained nasty and serious injuries and has obviously been left shocked and shaken by the incident.

“The offender has only got away with six pounds in this despicable attack.

"We are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or with any information about who the offender might be, to come forward as a matter of priority.

“If the person responsible is reading this, I urge them to do the right thing and hand themselves in to police urgently.”

If you witnessed the attack call Surrey Police on 101 and use crime reference number 45160066098 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
