The search for a missing Weybridge pensioner with dementia has widened to involve the Met Police as search parties become increasingly concerned for his welfare.
UPDATE: Missing Weybridge man found
Tony Gorton, 80, went missing from his St George’s Hill home at around 2pm yesterday afternoon.
He suffers from dementia and other health issues, and is not thought to have taken his medication with him, police said.
The search has now widenedafter reported sightings in Weybridge, Walton and Shepperton, and Surrey Police are now speaking with officers from the Met Police as part of their enquiries.
Mr Gorton is about 6ft, tanned and has grey hair.
He was last seen wearing a black raincoat, blue trousers, a blue shirt, yellow tie and checked tweed flat cap.
Inspector Nick Williams said: "It is completely out of character for Tony not to come home or stay out late, and with each hour that passes, we are growing more and more concerned about him.
“We have a lot of officers out on the ground looking for him, as well as the police helicopter and a team from Surrey Search and Rescue.
“The response from the public has also been amazing – we have received numerous calls to report sightings of him, which has been really helpful.
“If you live in the area from where Tony went missing, please keep an eye out for him – and ring us straightaway if you have any information which could help.”
Call Surrey Police on 101, quoting incident reference P16046701.
