The Surviving the Nightlife car meet at the motorway services was descended upon by more than 3,000 motorists on Sunday night, forcing police to refuse entry to other cars that were blocking the M25.
A temporary closure was put in place between junction 9 and 10 after the backlog at about 9pm.

Organiser Gareth Field wrote in a post on the Facebook event: “If you haven't heard by now, police shut the entrance to the event due to overcrowding.
“Despite our best efforts they wouldn't re-open it and such a lot of people got turned away, for that we as a club apologises.
“We were overwhelmed by all the cars turning up and even with a 3,000 limit car park we still managed to fill it.”
He also added: “Best M25 traffic jammed many have ever seen!”

Queues on the M25 tailed back for miles after parts of the motorway between junction 9 and 10 were closed by police
A Surrey Police spokesman said: “Surrey Police and the organisers of the event are strongly advising anyone intending on joining the gathering that they will not be able to do so and to make alternative plans.
“Other motorists inconvenienced by the closure of the service station and the subsequent traffic delays are thanked for their patience.”
Motorists stuck in the jams took to social media:
Who on earth decided that it would be a smart idea to do a car event at Cobham Services - caused traffic chaos on M25. IDIOTS!!

So a car meet at Cobham Services is causing 15 miles of traffic mayhem on the M25. There's a reason events like these should be ticketed...
