The Surbiton Festival is back.

Branded Surbo15, the festival celebrating the best the town has to offer now stretches over two weeks and adds new events to its roster, as well as bringing back successful ideas from last year.

A weekend of boating and music on the Thames, an antiques valuation day featuring TV star David Ford and a second SurboExpo business evening are just some of the activities on offer.

Organising committee chairman Bob Noble said: "We're going to try and give Surbiton riverside a bit more love with things like punting, sailing and rowing - and you can have a go.

"We've been given Raven's Ait island for the Sunday. People who've never been to the island can have a look around.

"We just don't use that river frontage and to me that's kind of sacrelige. That's what I'm looking forward to most and I'm keen to have a go at paddle-boarding."

As for the lengthened schedule, he said: "Doing it night after night for a whole week was too much. It makes it less arduous on the central organising committee. And now the gaps are filling in."

The festival's photo competition makes a return, and this year's theme is hats.

Headgear-related photos from amateurs 14 and under or 15 and over, plus professional photographers, will be eligible as long as photos were taken in Surbiton.

To enter, print your photos no larger than 20in by 16in and deliver them to Oceanbarefoot, Irongate Mews, Brighton Road, before 12pm on Monday, August 31.

Write your name, age, address and contact details on the reverse, along with the category you are entering.

Have fun snapping up to three notable noggin-toppers and your entries could be displayed in an exhibition. Prizes are also up for grabs.

The final day of the festival, which runs from Friday, September 11, to Saturday, September 26, has been dubbed 'Haturday' and will feature the now-traditional day of market stalls, entertainment, food and more. To blend in, arrive in the most outlandish hat you can find.
