Children celebrated Food Revolution Day yesterday at Jamie Oliver’s Kingston restaurant.

Meadlands Primary School’s dragonfly class made ‘squash it’ sandwiches while being taught about eating healthily for the event, which took place in 121 countries.
TV chef Oliver is a Food Revolution Day supporter and this year he has roped in celebrity support from singer Ed Sheeran as well as lending his restaurants and chefs out to school children.
The children, aged four and five, used cauliflower, carrot, peppers and radishes mixed with cottage cheese or hummus to create their vegetable packed sandwiches.
Fereshta, five, said: “I like carrots and mixing everything together. My favourite bit is the cutting because I’m not allowed to use knives at home.”
Classmate Thomas, five, also enjoyed cutting up his ingredients.
He said: “Using my knife to cut up cucumber is fun. I like my cucumber because it is juicy.”
Restaurant manager Jack Diamond stressed the importance of the day in teaching children about eating healthily and bringing attention to Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution Day campaign to put compulsory practical food education on the school curriculum.
He said: “Diet-related diseases are rising at an alarming rate and it has never been more important to educate children about food and where it comes from.
“Getting the kids into the restaurant is brilliant because it gets them working with fresh food and wanting to do this sort of this at home.”
