Over the past four weeks or so Network Rail have been cutting down a lot of trees beside the track on the approach to Surbiton station, spoiling what used to be an attractive railway cutting.
I appreciate that some cutting back is needed at times and, indeed, Network Rail has done so before, but not to this extent.
When I called to query this I was told that trees were never removed without a good reason and that they may fall on the track, which to my knowledge has never happened here.
It seems a great shame to lose yet another bit of greenery in what used to be a very pleasant area.
The best place to view the work is from the road bridge over the track at the junction of King Charles and Villiers roads.
I was wondering if publicity was given to this it might convince Network Rail that people do care about their environment and perhaps save trees in other areas.
