The Metropolitan Police has apologised to a Kingston man for wrongly identifying him as a culprit in a robbery.
The force issued a press release, and posted it online, naming Aneel Khan, of Gloucester Road, as one of two men convicted of an armed robbery in Putney.
It said in an apology this week: “This information was incorrect and should not have been published.
“The person convicted was a different Aneel Khan, not the one who resided in Gloucester Road, Kingston.
“The photograph accompanying the press release was of the correct Aneel Khan, the man who had been convicted.
“We apologise unreservedly to Mr Khan for making this error and for any distress it may have caused.”
