Infirm and elderly people who cannot walk on uneven ground will soon be able to enjoy a community green at the back of Epsom Hospital.
Workmen and diggers are refurbishing the paths and improving accessibility at Woodcote Millennium Green next to the hospital.
The seven-acre green is the only open space of its kind created in Surrey as part of a nationwide project to mark the Millennium.
Mark Swan, chairman of trustees at the Woodcote Millennium Green Trust, said the paths were in dire need of repair and the refurbishment has cost around £30,000.
Mr Swan said: "It has to be accessible by everyone including the infirm, frail, blind, and ladies with double buggies."
He thanked everyone who had made donations, adding: "We have put that to good use by redoing the paths which will hopefully enhance the green."
The land which now form the green has passed through the ownership of monks, lords and developers over the past 1,000 years.
In 1999, the Harwood family donated woodland including a pond to the trust whose members are passionate about conserving the "landscape gem".
