Recycling one extra plastic bottle a week could save more than £200,000 a year that could be put to use in other services.
Only 27 per cent of recyclable plastics, bottle, pots, tubs and trays, are currently being recycled in Surrey's households.
If each of the 983,000 adults in the county recycled one extra plastic bottle a week, £200,000 could be put back into front line services.
Mike Goodman, Surrey County Council cabinet member for the environment, said: "Recycling helps us improve Surrey's environment and the council's finances, so this small pledge could reap big benefits."
