Superman took time off from saving the world to pay a flying visit to The Albert pub in Kingston.

Swooning staff tweeted a photo of actor Henry Cavill surrounded by five female bartenders, hashtag #happygirls, after he dropped in to the pub opposite Kingston Hospital on Friday night.

Cavill reserved an area of the pub under a secret identity and enjoyed a quiet night before chatting with bar staff.

Such was his magnetism, bar staff could not say what he drank, who he was with, or crucially how he arrived, when contacted today.

The pub is 100 metres away from the nearest phone box - one Superman stride.

Jersey-born Cavill was selected from thousands of hopefuls to play Superman in £225m film Man of Steel, acting alongside Russell Crowe and Amy Adams.

The 30-year-old is set to share the silver screen with Ben Affleck, who will play Batman, in his next appearance as Superman.

He has also starred in the TV series The Tudors, about the rise of Henry VIII, much of it set in nearby Hampton Court.
