A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in New Malden last night, the London Ambulance Service has confirmed.

Paramedics were called to High Street at 8.48pm to reports of a stabbing.

An ambulance spokeswoman said: "Staff treated a 16-year-old-boy for a stab wound before taking him to hospital."

His condition is serious, but not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A Metropolitan Police helicopter was scrambled to assist in the search for suspects believed to be involved in the stabbing.

Witnesses reported seeing the victim slumped outside the KFC restaurant in High Street.

One witness said: “I was on the 213 bus passing through New Malden and saw the victim of the stabbing slouched against the wall of KFC.

"He was surrounded by people and his bandage was completely soaked through with blood.

“It appeared the emergency services had arrived quickly on the scene and a little further up on the side road of McDonald's [Sussex Place] a man had been apprehended by the police.”

Police confirmed this morning that the attack took place in nearby Blagdon Park, in Blagdon Road.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at approx 8.50pm to reports of a disturbance in High Street, New Malden.

"Officers attended and discovered a male, believed aged 16, suffering stab injuries.

"He has been taken to a south London hospital where he remains in a serious condition - his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"It has been established that the male received his injuries following an incident in nearby Blagdon Park."

Two males aged 16 and 17 have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and are in custody at two separate police stations.
