Brit Award-winner Tom Odell will make his Kingston bow ahead of the release of his long awaited debut album.

The 22-year-old singer songwriter will be coming to town for the first time when he plays McClusky’s on Thursday, June 20, as part of Banquet Records’ weekly New Slang night.

Having recently secured the services of Liam Gallagher at the Thames Street venue, Banquet could arguably claim that Odell’s appearance is the arrival of a megastar in the making.

Great things are expected of the classically-trained pianist, who hails from Chichester, West Sussex.

Following the critical success of last year’s EP Songs From Another Love, which featured sleeper-hit Another Love, Odell was named winner of the Critic’s Choice award at the 2013 Brits – the first male artist to win the gong.

And if winning that award is any indication of future success, then Odell can look forward to a stellar career – previous Critic’s Choice winners are Adele, Florence + the Machine, Ellie Golding, Jessie J and Emilie Sandi.

Banquet Records manager Jon Tolley said: “Tom Odell has been making quite an impression over the last couple of years with his Jeff Buckley-esque golden voice and thumping piano skills.

“His live performances have been likened to early Bowie and even though his clean cut, blonde, choir boy image might look angelic, on stage he most certainly is not.

“Come see for yourself.”

Odell will be appearing at New Slang just four days before his highly anticipated debut album, Long Way Down, is released.

As usual, after the bands finish, the night does not, and audiences can continue to jump around to their favourite indie hits until 2am.
