Tooting will be stuffed with food, drink, kids’ activities and many more delights besides as Tootopia, the three-day celebration of the town returns this month.
The large-scale weekend shindig from Friday, September 23, to Sunday, September 25, is set to turn the whole town into a party. Here is what you can expect.
Streetfood Takeover
Lovers of good street food will be heartened by the streetfood takeover at Graveney and Meadow featuring bands and DJs playing until sunset and food from around the world including Gyoza Guys, La Bao, Souvlaki Bros and Salvador Lane Barbecue.
Food and Drink Trails
Eating and drinking in one place can get boring, right? Tootopia’s Foodie Trail will take you around ten dining hotspots in the town, including meatball-specialist newbies Belpassi Bros.
A Thirst Quest tour encompasses Tooting’s best-loved juice bars, bottle shops and breweries with stop-offs including Craft Tooting at Broadway Market, cider-den Pilango and pubs The Selkirk and The Antelope.
TootopiaKIDS
A full programme of family entertainment over the weekend includes fun a Playzone, crafts at Love Art and creative food larks at Harry’s Chocolate Emporium. There will be a Storytelling circle at Graveney and Meadow and a children’s cinema at Tooting Market showing Finding Nemo and Pokemon.
Handmade Fair
Crafters, makers and designers will be selling their wares, including local postcard prints and vintage goodies from Ra Ra Bazzar.
Music
Tooting Tram and Social will host bands such as Tourists, DJ 70EL, Silent Crowd, Zach Said and Luke May. On the Sunday, it will host the first-ever Tram Music Quiz and Retro Sundays, where you can play 90s video games.
History
There will be a rare chance to explore the country’s only Grade I listed cinema, Granada Tooting, which is now a Gala Bingo. There will also be the unveiling of the blue plaque to commemorate the Second World War’s youngest soldier, Tooting’s Sid Lewis.
Something a bit different
For anyone on the look-out for something unusual or quirky then you’ll be in your element at Tootopia. There’s Bowie Bowling at The Antelope, which is also launching its new Craft Beer Bar, a silent auction, a dog show, a pop-up barbershop, comedy, virtual reality brewery tours and a 90s party at Tooting Market.
