African Revival in Bushy Park

By Community Correspondent Richard Sharp

Hampton Hill based charity African Revival put on a great display in Bushy Park as their part of Hampton Hill’s Summer Festival on Saturday 17th July.

The popular ‘Beat the Goalie’ competition was kicked off by David Marlow, Mayor of Richmond, Dr. Vincent Cable MP and Dave Milgate Hampton Hill’s Town Crier for the day. Vincent made a splendid kick to fox the keeper.

The African Art stand drew lots of attention with some wonderful examples of wildlife and figures. Amy Hatton, African Revival’s Executive Director delighted many youngsters with her fantastic and creative face painting.

Operations Manager Lucy Rowe said, “It was great to take part in the Festival and to meet so many new people. We wanted to raise awareness of just what we do and what we are all about. Thanks to the generosity of the visitors we raised £328 to help support our vital work in Northern Uganda, Zambia and Sudan.”

African Revival’s vision is of an Africa where children have access to education, opportunity and choice for the future. We believe that education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle; that every child, no matter how poor, has the right to a quality basic education; that education is improved through investing in people and that communities hold the key to sustainable education.

African Revival works directly with communities in Africa to - Identify and overcome barriers to education. Build schools and facilities for a thriving learning environment.

Deliver high quality educational models to achieve good standards of early year’s education. Train and motivate teachers and pupils, to embed a love of learning for life. Encourage parents and communities to prioritise education for their children. Support sustainability through a community led approach.

The Hampton Hill Festival was sponsored by the Parker Car Service with support from The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
