By Community Correspondent Axel Kemp They are a cyclist’s worst nightmare and an annoyance to motorists and pedestrians alike – potholes infest almost every road in Epsom.
Roads in Epsom, as well as many other major towns, can sometimes go unsurfaced for extensive periods of time. Temple Road, a notable example, has gone unnoticed for thirteen years. This can be extremely dangerous particularly for cyclists and motorcyclists, where one bump could knock them off their bikes and potentially injure them. However, this affects people driving cars too – the sudden hole in the road has been shown to damage suspension; this is a particular annoyance for those driving new cars.
As is expected, frequent complaints have been made to the local Council to try and rectify the issue. However, the problem here is that the condition of the roads is handled by the County Council, not by our local governors. And unfortunately, Surrey County Council have their hands full with other towns in the county with the exact same problem.
It is an unfortunate situation, however it appears that there is no other option but to report potholes via Surrey County Council’s website, and wait for them to sort it out. After all, complaining to the local council seems to be ineffective.
