London based charity World Child Cancer is holding a 16 mile sponsored walk along the River Thames between Richmond and Hampton Court on Sunday 9th September to raise funds to help children suffering from cancer in some of the poorest countries in the world.

World Child Cancer is the only charity dedicated solely to helping children with cancer in low/middle income countries, where only 1 in 10 children survives compared with 8 in 10 in developed regions. In the developing world, at least 100,000 children die every year because of a lack of basic treatment, the majority die without any effective pain relief. Money the charity raises is used to provide specialist training for doctors and nurses, improve facilities, develop reliable supplies of essential drugs and improve support for families.

World Child Cancer are still looking for walkers to join what promises to be a fantastic day out and will help raise money for a worthy cause. Registration is only £10 and then walkers are encouraged to fundraise as much as possible. Small amounts of funding can make a significant and sustainable difference to the lives of the children suffering from Cancer in countries such as Malawi and Bangladesh; just £10 will provide effective pain relief for four children for a week in Malawi or £50 will provide life saving chemotherapy drugs for one child in Ghana.
