I felt compelled to write after reading your excellent article about the protest in Kingston (Leader branded ‘toytown dictator’ over power tweet, March 13).

I was part of the march and was also horrified by the comments of the councillor.

It is highly likely that the campaigners would contact their local MP, regardless of political allegiances, because that is what their local MP is there for.

I doubt very much whether the campaign requested that Ed Davey be present and that it was his choice to join the protest.

He may have seen it as a political opportunity, but Kevin Davis has not given his reactions and comments due care and thought.

His Twitter comments are very reactionary and thoughtless and it concerns me that, as a Kingston resident, we have someone like this involved in decision-making.

Such an important position for the community requires someone who is measured and thoughtful.

Mr Davis’s social media outbursts show he is neither of these things.

I had been a Liberal Democrat voter at the previous general election, but changed my views on Mr Davey after he came to speak at a prizegiving event at the school I work at.

On that occasion, he completely missed the point of what he was asked to be involved in – something common in Kingston politicians, it seems.

Having heard what the Conservative councillor feels about the views of the residents, there is no way I would vote for him in the future.
