In his letter directed at Zac Goldsmith (An open letter to Zac Goldsmith MP, February 20), Robin Meltzer misses the point.

The problem is not that the super-rich try to minimise their tax through exploiting loopholes.

That is par for the course, as one of them, Lord Fink, has admitted.

The problem is the existence within society of a class of super-rich.

Why should some people get a huge unearned income from inherited wealth or a bloated “salary” out of all proportion to the work they do, even if they do pay their taxes?
