I was appalled to read about the alleged rape in Canbury Gardens on September 13.

Some years ago when there was a sexual assault in nearby Bank Lane the council responded by improving the street lighting which was at the time considered to be inadequate.

In Skerne Walk, between Kings Road and the town centre the street lights which are all relatively new, are more often not working than they are working.

There must be a significant fault because it isn't just one light that goes out, all of them do which puts this path in darkness.

The Comet reported a couple of years ago there was a plan to improve the lighting in Canbury Park but the council couldn't find the £100,000 to do it.

I call upon Councillor David Cunningham to get the lights working in Skerne Walk for once and for all and to spend the necessary funds to improve the lighting in Canbury Gardens before the end of the year.
