It might be a different party in control of the council, but it definitely seems to be wearing the same coat when it comes to avoiding answering questions.
Last November, I wrote to several councillors about the poor state of Queen’s Promenade, along the riverfront.
Graffiti and dirty signage, poor maintenance of the beaches, overgrown flower beds and public toilets being closed are some of the issues.
The noticeboard is displaying out-of-date notices, some dating back to 2004.
I was informed that the benches would be tended to and that an additional £2,000 would be put towards tidying up the promenade.
Since November, very little has been done.
Works did start on the benches, but were never finished.
I raised this with the new Kingston town councillors on July 7.
I emailed Councillor Brister, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, Councillor Doyle and Councillor Hitchcock, who was one of the leading councillors behind the new look of Kingston market place.
Also on the email was Councillor Cunningham, lead member for environment and transport, and the leader of the council, Councillor Davis.
Not one of these councillors has acknowledged my concern about the Queen’s Promenade or the poor state of the playground in Fairfield.
This raises concerns with the council officers, who are meant to be working in partnership with the contractors.
It would seem that it is a one-way partnership, with the contractors the ones in control.
