On Sunday the 25th of March, Apps Court Farm hosted their first car boot sale of the year. Early risers arrived to the area with boots packed with old or new unwanted belongings, searching for bargains from other sellers and arranging their bric-a-brac around their cars. At around 8am, the chaos began.

The frosty, damp morning did affect the amount of visitors, however it was expected for the first one of 2018. There was obvious rivalry between neighbouring stalls, as sideways glances were cast to see what the competition was offering. As well as there being a diverse selection of bits and pieces in front of each car.

My family and I had a stall full of timeworn clothes, books, and toys. Alike the other sellers, we were practically giving things away for free, earning about 50p for a pair of curtains and an unused carpet. There was noticeable negotiating of prices throughout the day and the sweet/chocolate stall was definitely drawing the most amount of attention to their cheap treats.

I spoke to Graham Brown who came to raise money for charity by selling old things at the sale, he said “my stock isn’t the best this time round, and I’m not getting as many customers as usual, but that is typical for a day with this type of weather.”

After attending the event, and making only £40 over a long 4 hours, I don’t think that this week’s car boot sale was the best of them all. Yet there’s always next weekend to improve and attract more visitors.
