Sutton High School Christmas Concert

On Thursday 30th November, Sutton High School for Girls held their annual Christmas concert. It was held at the local Baptist church, as the school hall was undergoing renovations.

The acoustics of the church were brilliant, and the architectural skill in designing it was unusual and attractive. Many of the pupils performed, including the school’s Senior Choir, orchestra and ensembles.

One of the most enjoyed performances of the evening was the Traditional Chinese Ensemble, who performed ‘Blue and white porcelain’ with one girl playing the flute, another the piano, and one singing the song in Chinese.

One of the soloists, Melissa, said that it was a really good concert, and that she enjoyed singing in it. Another performance that was especially commented on at the end was Sutton High and Sutton Grammar School’s ‘Mixed Choir’, which is made up of a mixture of boys and girls from the upper half of the school at both schools.

It was interesting to see both pupils and staff in the concert, including one staff member playing the double bassoon in the orchestra. Girls found it especially fun to hear the Staff Choir sing ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’.

It was a great success, and many parents and other guests attended. The grandmother of one of the performers said: “I really enjoyed the evening and seeing the talent and dedication of the people performing”.
