In recent weeks, a new bin collection scheme has taken been brought upon Sutton, to the extreme disapproval and discontentment of Suttoners.  Not only does the new scheme seem just too big a change from the last recycling system, but on top of that the lack of organisation and planning has become evident through several missed collections as well as cases of fly-tipping (illegal waste dumping) throughout the area.

Many people living in Sutton find the new collection scheme bothersome and irritating, not to mention inconvenient due to the complete change of schedules and increase in bins.  Furthermore, there has been absolutely no form of consultation or negotiation between the residents of Sutton and those initiating the new scheme.  Moreover, the #SuttonBinShame has been trending throughout social media, causing great humiliation to our community.

I have spoken to some of my neighbours who feel deeply about this issue and they agreed with the general consensus of disorder and incompetence in the system.  My neighbour explained: “the initiative is great and innovative; we should be making a more active effort in making our community a greener place.  But it was the execution of the idea that completely let the plan down; the lack of order and sticking to the allotted schedule.”

The new bin collection scheme has indeed caused havoc and chaos in the daily lives of people living in Sutton.  We sincerely hope that situation is solved swiftly and an appropriately organised system can soon replace the current one and help make Sutton into a greener, more environmentally-friendly town.
