Mother’s Day has just happened and to many it may have involved making an extra effort with the female parental figure in your life but some think that it is a pointless holiday.

“It’s really nice that mothers are recognised for all the special things that they do.” Anonymous states.

Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to treat your mother and give back for all that she has done to help you and raise you. You have an entire day to give back to your aunty, grandmother or any other woman in your life that you feel has had a part in shaping you into the person that you are today. In that way, it is great that they do get recognition.

However, one could argue that these people should be celebrated on a daily basis and instead of receiving a year’s worth of attention on one day.

Also, for most, Mother’s Day involves a last minute dash to the shops to grab chocolate, flowers and a flowery card filled with prose about how much you appreciate your mother. First, this is not heartfelt and second, it could be a waste of money. Companies may use Mother’s Day as an excuse to market and sell more of their products. To them it may be another chance to make profit and less about celebrating ‘all the special things that they do’.

Although Mother’s Day is a good way to appreciate your mother, some may believe that they should be appreciated all year round and not just for the sake of Mother’s Day.
