Have you ever deleted an online picture because it didn't get enough likes? If so, you're far from alone. Numerous people have done the exact same. Aside from this, there are plenty of other pressures coming from social media that play a bigger and bigger role in our modern world.

On Facebook, five new accounts are created every second. This highlights the amount of people who use the site. As a result it is understandable to feel pressured to come across in a certain way to literally billions of social media users. In our modern society, being a part of social media is almost inevitable. Children as young as 3 some even younger have high profile social media accounts with thousands of followers. If these people are a social media goal, it is understandable that people feel embarrassed or ashamed at a lack of followers or likes. This can also cause people to expose their accounts to a public and potentially dangerous audience.

So many people feel this way so if you feel you do as well, know that you are not alone. One teenage girl feels that 'everyone has pressures on them when it comes to social media' such as 'pressures to take off photos' or even 'simple things like Snapchat streaks'. Countless people agree. 50% of 18- 24 year olds go on social media first thing when they wake up. This isolates people from the real world as they are already in a social media mindset before the day has properly began.

Social media can bring a lot of good, however. It exposes many people to a wider range of knowledge and helps enlighten them in a positive way. Some have said that social media 'allows people to build stronger bonds with friends they don't see as often' as social media offers a method of communication that older generations didn't have. Some argue social media encourages anti- social behaviour but it cannot be denied that it opens some doors for social interaction.

Some people claim social media does only bad, damaging people's self-worth but others argue it enlightens people and helps broaden knowledge. Do you believe social media to be progress or regress?
