The ruthless storm Doris arrived on 23rd February moving across the UK with gusts of up to 94mph. The storm was named on 21st by the MET Office as yellow and amber warnings were issued for wind, snow and rain.

Doris moved rapidly through Northern Ireland early morning, across northern England and out in to the North Sea by the early afternoon. The storm brought heavy snow to Scotland and strong rain all over the UK that was impossible to miss.

Trees, garden fences and bins were not the only things that were victims to Doris’ brutal force. A man was left in a serious condition in central London when debris fell from the roof of a building near Victoria station. In Swindon, a 32-year-old mother who was on her way to pick up her young child from a nearby childminder was swept across the road and was tragically killed by a road sweeper. A man in north London was prisoner in his own home after the storm took down a tree outside his house and many others around London were affected

On a slightly smaller scale, other impacts of the storm included tress falling over roads, which disrupted commuters of all ages! Also a significant delay in trains occurred as well as 10% of flights at Heathrow Airport were cancelled.

Whether it was big or small around the UK, storm Doris made sure nothing was left unaffected.
