Storm Doris- another storm to reap human life. Caitlin Mullane, Coloma Sixth Form.

Many of you might remember the miserable weather only a few of days ago on 23rd February 2017, the storm that left trees knocked over on roads, flights to be cancelled, buildings destroyed and the death of civilians. This storm is known as Storm Doris.

The Met Office issued yellow and Amber warnings for Storm Doris on the 21 February, warnings for wind, snow and rain. It was even labelled a weather bomb with the development of the raging cyclogenesis. Despite ample warning many people braved the storm throughout the UK, with drivers driving in unsafe and blizzardous conditions, sadly leading to many car accidents on roads nationally.

Storm Doris was no storm to laugh at, she was recorded at Capel Curig, Wales, of bring gales of up to 94 mph, to give you a brief idea a cheetah runs approximately 110-120 mph.

Consequences of Storm Doris include to many buildings being damaged, the closure of the M80, one of Scotland’s busiest motorways, and the death of a handful of civilians who unfortunately got caught in the storm. The forces of nature are not one to reckon with or test as you never know what Mother Nature has up her sleeves, therefore next time there is a storm warning that has been labelled as dangerous/potentially dangerous, please take it seriously and take care of yourself and others.
