1896, Girton College, Cambridge saw one of the first developments in further education for womankind. The struggle for the acquirement of a degree, back in the era, was significant and brutal, for all women. The Blue Stocking’s society was an educational movement in England, which emphasised the importance of equality and cooperation. This month, Nonsuch High School for Girls, dared to perform Jessica Swale’s theatrical formulation of the events that took place.
Performing on the 8th and the 9th, the Nonsuch production team delivered two spectacular energetic performances which truly captured the essence of the suffrage struggle. Through numerous scenes and excellently delivered dialogues, the audience tuned into the mood of the performance with ease. The hall had an aura of pride, struggle and honour, as the nights were captured in our memory forever.
Audience members commented on the ‘striking emotion’ of the play, and the ‘quality of execution from the cast’. All in all, the entire institution of Nonsuch High has truly benefitted from and enjoyed the experience of producing, performing and spectating this ambitious musical.
