News has recently broken of the date and location of Prom. And everyone’s stressing over what they’re going to wear. It’s on the 22nd of June. That’s a whole 5 months away! What’s the big deal? Finding a dress or suit may sound easy, but after weeks of contemplation, you realise you’ve spent most of your money on food and your budget is basically blown. So then what do you do? I guess no one will know it belonged to your parent once upon a dinosaur…

Outfits for prom are ridiculously priced. I mean it’s an outfit that’ll be worn for one night and no doubt sit in the back of your wardrobe until you decide it’s to be removed. Seriously though, as soon as you put the word prom in front of any item it automatically increases in price. Whilst some people are content with ordering online, I have a fear that the clothing will arrive - in some way – deformed. Whether there’s a tear in the coat pocket, or the bust is too roomy, there’s bound to be an issue. What’s more, there’s no safety on the return conditions as the price to return won’t be worth the refund.

A Facebook group is open to the whole of year 11, allowing them to stop people buying the same outfit. A common thread has begun to shine through; red. The colour everyone who’s wearing a dress will begin to dread. Whilst it may not seem like a big deal if you’re not all in the same friendship group (meaning that you’re not going to take pictures together) the concern is that God forbid someone gets the two of you mixed up

Whilst the idea of prom is magical and enchanting, the one night after your final exam will be spent in a room with people you’ve possibly never spoken to. It’s a night to get dressed up and hang out with your closest friends, get the guts to finally ask your crush out and (hopefully) a night making memories that will last a lifetime. But is Prom worth the price tag? We are only GCSE students after all.
