On Saturday, the 21st January, citizens of Britain spontaneously rose in protest towards President Donald Trump’s racist, sexist, homophobic, and overall unfair views on society. These people, including myself and fellow students, did not agree on his recent presidency, therefore, on the day of his inauguration, decided to take the streets and stand up for what they believed was right. And they were not silenced.

The event took place at Oxford Street, London and continued to march for an hour through to Trafalgar Square where a rally took place- standing up for those globally, especially American women, who have had their rights stolen and discriminated against. Similar acts took place on the same day all over the planet, including Europe and America.

I, myself took part in this parade, with local friends and students. I think it is a true shame that these things still must be debated on, and many people’s voices are still yet to be heard. Our generation is only slowly and slightly moving forwards, however Trump and his supporters are not a clear example of this. Poorly educated, or more commonly, ignorant people still unfortunately exist, and therefore, I was pleased to take part in this act. Many banners and signs were made, and it was inspiring and heart-warming to see so many different groups of people taking part. 10,000 triumphant people with active voices of all ages, genders, and races, including dogs and babies wanted to co-operate in the good deed. Several roads were blocked, tube stations were closed, and energetic music blasted through speakers during the entire parade.

The experience for me was delightful- the music was upbeat and I was surrounded by happy faces. The atmosphere was incredible. Everyone I encountered were extremely friendly and sent positive vibes. It made me look forwards to possible protests in the future, and I would definitely recommend it as something to cross off your bucket list.
