Fort Lauderdale airport shooter finally charged.

Esteban Santiago,26 was accused for open firing in terminal 2 at Fort Lauderdale airport, killing 5 and wounding 6. He was charged with carrying out a act of violence causing death which has a maximum sentence of death.

On Friday 7th January, Estaban killed 5 people for reasons unknown. Estaban was an Iraq war veteran who had planned this attack and even bought two hand guns just for this attack. Officials think that Sebastian might have some kind of mental health issue as he stated that he was hearing voices and was being told to do this by the voice in his head. furthermore, he brought his new-born with him to the airport but left him in the car when he went to commit the crime.

Estaban’s aunt said that “ he has gone completely mad”. His brother said that this all happened because of what he saw in Iraq and was receiving phycological treatment for that but it wasn’t really helping him.

Many people are now wondering if gun control rules in the US should be reconsidered as this isn’t the first time that people had easy access to guns allowing them to commit such tragic crimes. Here in Sutton I spoke to Katie who stated that “the US should have learnt their lesson from the Orlando night club shooting and should have done something then. We will keep seeing these cases until the US government decided to do something about gun control. I feel so lucky that we live in the UK where we have banned guns”

What are your opinions on this whole incident? Do you think the US government needs to do something about guns?
