It's a matter of life and death

Join our campaign to save Surbiton Hospital. We want you our readers, wherever they live in Kingston, to support our call to save this vital community hospital.
Kingston Primary Care Trust announced shock plans to close all the beds in the hospital and move the frail and sick elderly patients to other, unspecified, hospitals.
The trust, which is facing a financial crisis, claims that the cost of maintenance and repairs to the roof and standby generator are no longer economical.
The only other option it is proposing to consult the public about is closing the hospital altogether.
The move has horrified local people, many of whom have used the much-loved hospital for generations.
They object to the sudden ultimatum and are demanding a proper strategy for its future.
The Surrey Comet believes the hospital must be saved – for the sake of its patients and the vital role it plays in health services, not just in Surbiton and Tolworth but the borough as a whole.
