Wimbledon just ran out of time after coming back from 26-11 down with 10 minutes left on Saturday as an enthralling London One South match see-sawed throughout the 80 minutes.
The home team held territory for the first quarter with number nine James Poole kicking them in front.
Wimbledon responded with a lovely try from full-back, Dave Charles after Julian Callanan and scrum half Alex Pyes had taken advantage of some rare quick ball from the scrum.
Almost immediately though, Wimbledon’s defence was breached and OC’s wing and captain Nick Miller scored in the corner, Poole converting well.
Wing Mike Simmons kicked three more points moments after the restart.
But waves of attacks from Old Colfeians eventually produced three successful penalties for Poole which took them 19-11 ahead.
Wing Werner Hamman extended their lead with an opportunist try from a Wimbledon error. Poole again converted to take it to 26-11.
But Wimbledon were not about to roll over.
A storming run from prop Pete Wallace, one of several he made, and a bit of magic from number 10 Dave Rees reduced the deficit by five points, wing Jonny Rawlinson adding the conversion.
Another penalty saw OC’s go 11 points ahead, but then a quick kick-off by Rees was gathered by Rawlinson who jinked through the defence to score under the posts.
Rees drop-kicked the conversion and there were just four points in it and a glimmer of hope.
But that was snuffed out when the referee blew for full time at the next stoppage.
If Wimbledon can curb their desire to force the pace, what is now becoming a much more settled team should return to winning ways at home next week to Old Elthamians.
